Roslindale, MA – August 25, 2014 – Last Wednesday, FreshAddress, an email database services company in Newton, participated in a Habitat for Humanity build day with the Greater Boston affiliate as a part of their 15th anniversary celebrations during the month of August. The company sent 10 staff members for the day to volunteer with the construction of a two family home in Roslindale. FreshAddress worked alongside Paul, the site leader, Carl and Audrey two Habitat volunteers, and Stephen, a future Habitat homeowner.
The team helped to fire-block the staircases, worked in the basement and on the back deck, caulked the side of the roof, sanded windows outside of the house, and much more. None of the FreshAddress employees (except one) had ever volunteered with Habitat and they were very inspired by the build day.
“I couldn’t believe that we were able to do so much in contributing to building Stephen’s home! I was so happy to be able to help and I can’t wait to do it again,” said Gabby Pinto, FreshAddress’s Graphic Design Intern.
The one staff member who had previously participated through school and in her hometown was very excited to spread the word about the organization. “When I found out that a lot of my coworkers hadn’t done Habitat before, I immediately looked into doing a group build as a part of our 15th anniversary celebration. It was such a great way to work together in the community and help make a difference in someone’s life,” said Katherine Boyarsky, Marketing Associate at FreshAddress.
Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston is currently working on three active sites; one project is in Roslindale, one is in Dorchester, and one is in Roxbury. To date, Habitat Greater Boston has completed over 100 homes and continues to work in the community to provide affordable housing for deserving families. “It is so wonderful to hear that companies like FreshAddress are giving up work days to help in the community. We can’t thank them enough for their service and we hope that they will join us for another build,” said Lark Jurev Palermo, President and CEO of Habitat Greater Boston.
FreshAddress plans on continuing to work with Habitat following the success of their first build day. “We are excited to continue building our relationship with Habitat for Humanity and watch the progress on Steven’s future home,” said FreshAddress’s President, Austin Bliss.
